As a volunteer soldier in the Byzantine Army of Byzantium Novum, I pledge the following:

I.   I Pledge to uphold the Foundational Laws of Byzantium Novum, and act in accord with the direction of the Byzantium Novum Senate and my superior officers within the Byzantium Novum Militarium, so long as those are not in conflict with the laws of the nation in which I reside. 

II.   I Pledge to maintain the military traditions of the Eastern Roman Empire through peaceful means, and understand that the Byzantine Army in Byzantium Novum is a Martial Order rather than an active military force.

III.   I Pledge to abandon all historical enmities and serve Byzantium through peaceful and positive means. 

IV.   During reenactments I pledge to promote and portray accurate Byzantine military history as far as is possible, and pledge never to take the field with arms, armor or tactics from later than 1461 AD, the time of the last sovereign Byzantine cities.

V.   I understand that the Byzantine Army in Byzantium Novum is a modern military order with goals and activities beyond historical reenactment, and will participate in positive charitable and civic causes endorsed by the Militarium as is possible and practical for me. I also understand that the Militarium administers all Byzantine land forces, including the Varangian Guard, Byzantine cavalry, auxiliaries, militia and mercenary forces, etc.

VI.   I pledge to abide by and uphold the rules of my local Legion or Tagma (regimental units) and the decisions of my superior officers, so long as they are in accord with the directives of Byzantium Novum.

VII.   I understand that as a volunteer I have right to end my service to Byzantium Novum at any time, and that if such becomes necessary I will inform the Militarium officially. I understand that if my leaving is peaceful I may have opportunity to rejoin if I should wish.

VIII.   I clearly understand that the Byzantine Army in Byzantium Novum is chartered to abide by all the laws of the country in which I reside, and international law where applicable. I therefore pledge to personally abide by the laws of the country in which I live, and understand that if I do not I may be summarily dismissed from the Militarium. 

IX.   I Pledge to maintain proper military order at all public events and obey necessary safety rules when reenacting with weapons.

X.   I understand that by taking this oath, I officially volunteer for service in the Byzantine Army.  I understand that as a volunteer I may gain rank through service and merit, if deemed worthy by my commanders and the Byzantium Novum Senate.
